Location: Gallery 53. 53 Colony Street. Meriden CT 06451

The Connecticut Pastel Society is thrilled to host Tara Will for a three-day in-person workshop. Tara achieved her Eminent Pastelist status with the International Association of Pastel Artists in 2022. Tara works in pastel trying to capture the essence of the subject using bold colors and strong marks. An early background in plein air influenced her love of light and shadow as well as a deep love for a variety of landscapes. She resides in Maryland with her husband and four children.

Using elements of design, we will create work with intention. Color, Composition, Value, and Mark Making help us construct a narrative that we find worthy of sharing with a viewer. How can we use those tools to help us get that message across? What are we trying to say? What are we sharing in the painting? All of these are questions we should be considering BEFORE we even pick up our pastels. Lets discuss how to paint with intention, how to be confident in knowing we are able to convey that to the viewer, and find the joy in why we paint.

Each artist will work with their own chosen images that they are excited to paint. Gallery 53 in Meriden offers a spacious, well lit space that will allow us to work comfortably. There will be options for working seated or standing as each artist prefers.
